Ajaz Patel picked four wickets on Day 1 of the series-deciding Test and on Saturday went on to take the remaining six wickets to register the figures of 119/10 in the innings. Earlier, England’s Jim Laker and India’s Anil Kumble had achieved the feat in 1956 and 1999 respectively.

Anil Kumble had bowled 24.3 in the iconic Test match at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla (now Arun Jaitley Stadium) and given away just 75 runs to take all the 10 wickets in an innings. At the time, Pakistan batting line-up was studded with batting heavyweights like Saaed Anwar, Ijaz Ahmed, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Yousuf and Salim Malik. Saqlain Mushtaq was the 10th dismissal for Kumble in Pakistan’s first innings. India had won that match by a massive 212-run margin.

Notably, the 33-year-old had earlier expressed a lot of excitement to play a Test match in the city of his birth – Mumbai. Ajaz Patel had dismissed the likes of Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane before finally getting Mohammed Siraj to register his name in the glorious history of Test cricket.
Before the match, Ajaz Patel had played 10 Test matches and taken 29 wickets from them.
In a tremendous show of sportsmanship, the entire Team India squad gave a standing ovation to Ajaz Patel after his rare feat.
