India had just one optional practice session before the Netherlands match with all bowlers except R Ashwin getting a rest day. With India calling off practice on Wednesday, India will go to SCG against Netherlands a little uncooked. However, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey said it was more to do with recovery.
“I think we’re pretty thought out in terms of the planning and how we want to go about it. I think from here on, every session that we have left is an optional one, so in terms of the maintenance, in terms of the physiotherapy, taking care of them, it’s important to have them in the best shape going into every game,” Paras Mhambrey said at the pre-match press conference.

However, Netherlands could be a threat to India’s challenge. With SouthAfrica, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe besides Pakistan in the same group, NRR could be the differentiator if rain plays spoilsport in any of the games.
Reason 1: Team morale and momentum: India did almost everything right against Pakistan crossing the hurdle in the last over. While there are areas to work on, India will be high on morale. With the wind in the wind, India will be looking to continue the momentum against Netherlands.
It will also be an opportunity for India’s openers and Suryakumar Yadav to get some runs. Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and SKY all fell cheaply against Pakistan. It was left to Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya to do the bulk of work, guiding India to victory.
Eye on Net Run Rate: India will also have to be mindful of the Net Run Rate situation. With a last-over win, India could only register a minor 0.050 NRR. As India were ousted from T20 World Cup 2021 on the basis of NRR and two losses to Pakistan and New Zealand, Rohit Sharma & Co will need to maintain a good NRR. Bangladesh are already on top in Group 2 with 0.450 NRR.

As rain is set to dictate the tone in Super 12 stage, India will have to maintain a higher NRR to eliminate that possibility. A rain-induced loss or a washout could be disastrous for Team India. To remind fans, England lost to Ireland by just 5 runs on DLS method. England could have won the game with 5.3 overs still to go.
Loss is detrimental to semifinal chances: India are hot favourites against Netherlands even if their top players don’t play. Netherlands are a semi-professional cricket team. But if rain does play spoilsport and India end up losing the match, it will be detrimental to their semifinals hopes. India will face South Africa next who are the other strong opponents in the group beside Sri Lanka. India lost to SriLanka in the Asia Cup to make a Super 4 exit.
