After a gritty match-winning 40-run knock against Pakistan, Hardik Pandya has struggled for runs. Most of the dismissals have come against express pace or short balls. He also struggled against the express pace of Haris Rauf and Anrich Nortje.
In his four innings, he has fallen to short ball traps. Against South Africa, Lungi Ngidi set him up well with a short ball and Hardik gave away a catch at third man.
Against Bangladesh, it was rather bizarre. He tried to take on Hasan Mahmud over the point on a short ball. But he failed to get any elevation and gave away a catch to Point fielder Yasir Ali.

- 18 vs Zimbabwe: Out against wide yorker
- 5 vs Bangladesh: Hasan Mahmud delivered a short ball and Hardik tried to go over the point. But instead, he gave away a catch to Yasir Ali at point.
- 2 vs South Africa: Lungi Ngidi delivered a short ball and Hardik fell into the trap. He tried to go over fine leg but gave away a catch to Kagiso Rabada.

As Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, Ben Stokes and Sam Curran are expected to bowl a lot of short balls on Thursday, Hardik needs to get his base covered. Hardik will be an important figure in India’s batting line-up with Yuzvendra Chahal expected to replace Axar Patel. Hence, he will be the last recognised batter in Indian line-up.
Barring his 40-run contribution in a match-winning partnership with Virat Kohli, he has struggled. Hence, Hardik is working against his kryptonite to take on English bowling attack.
India Practice Adelaide: As for Team India, only Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik besides Hardik Pandya turned up for the optional practice in Adelaide. Rohit Sharma got hurt at the nets and injured his wrist before the BIG SEMIFINAL. He was writhing in pain with physios attending to him. Later Rohit applied ice packs on his injured wrist. However, he returned to the nets after 40 minutes and seemed okay to continue.
