Joe Root etched his name amongst the legends of the game slamming yet another Test century on Tuesday. The 31-year-old resumed on 76 and took no time to reach the three-figure mark for the 28th time in his career.

Root – 28* (121 matches)
Smith – 27 (86 matches)
Kohli – 27 (102 matches)
Williamson – 24 (88 matches)
The former England captain now has the most centuries amongst active players. Root was involved in a three-way tie with Virat Kohli and Steve Smith at 27, but his Edgbaston heroics put him on top. Incidentally, it is Root’s 11th ton since 2021, while Kohli and Smith have failed to score any.

Joe Root India Record – India England Edgbaston Test: England set out to attempt a record and Joe Root put his hand up once again with a stellar century. While Root has been amongst the best in the business over the last few overs, he enjoys playing against India.
It is incidentally his 9th test century against India, the most by a player. Root was previously tied with Steve Smith, Ricky Ponting, Viv Richards and Gordon Greenidge all scoring eight. He also has the most number of runs against India, going past 2500 runs, only the second after Ponting.
