Deepak Hooda was surprisingly dropped from India’s team as Rohit Sharma welcomed his experienced superstars back into the playing XI on Saturday. The Lucknow Super Giants star was in the form of his life but had to sacrifice his place to Virat Kohli.
In his four innings for India in the format, Deepak Hooda has scored 21, 47*, 104 and 33. He became only the fourth Indian to score a century in T20I cricket, achieving the feat in a world record partnership with Sanju Samson.
Against England in the first T20, Hooda kept India’s template of attacking cricket going, scoring at a brisk rate after coming into bat at No.3. He managed to score 33 off just 17 balls, helping India to a fighting 196 in their 20 overs.

The move to drop Deepak Hooda did not pay dividends for India as the former captain departed for just 1 on his return to the side after 5 months. Virat played a dangerous swipe in just his 3rd ball off the innings, finding a leading edge with Dawid Malan taking a stellar running catch.
Kohli had a forgetful IPL season as well, scoring 341 runs in 16 matches at an average of 22.73 and strike rate of 115.98 with two fifties. On the contrary, Hooda enjoyed his best-ever IPL season, scoring 451 runs at a strike rate of 136.67 and an average of 32.21.
