It all started as early as the second over when left-arm seamer Ravi Kumar bowled an in-swinger in the penultimate delivery of the first over and trapped England opener Jacob Bethell plumb in front to draw first blood. In the very next over, he sent England skipper Tom Prest back to the pavilion for a duck inducing an inside edge off his bat that castled the stumps, leaving England reeling at 18-2.
Raj Bawa was brought into the attack in the seventh over of the innings. In his very first over, he found an edge off George Thomas only for it to be dropped at first slip by Kaushal Tambe. He continued to trouble the batsmen in his second over by bowling a maiden. He finally got his reward in the first ball of his third over by dismissing Thomas who hit it straight to Yash Dhull at cover.

The all-rounder then came back in his next over and first dismissed William Luxton by moving the ball away from him, giving wicketkeeper Dinesh Bana a simple catch. In the very next ball, he bowled a well-directed short-pitched delivery to George Bell, who gloved it to the keeper was out for a golden duck. England were reduced to 47 for 5. Rehan Ahmed and James Rew built a small 13-run partnership and Bawa dismissed Ahmed by finding an edge that was well-taken by Kaushal Tambe at first slip to take his second four-wicket haul in the tournament.
Off-spinner Kaushal Tambe then dismissed Alex Horton as England lost seven wickets for 91 runs. James Rew and James Sales then shared a vital 93-run partnership and helped England resurrect their innings. With wickets not falling, Indian skipper Yash Dhull had to bring back Ravi Kumar and Raj Bawa.
In the 44th over of the innings, Ravi finally broke the partnership as he took the wicket of James Rew who hit one straight to Deep Square leg and walked back to the pavilion scoring a vital 95. Two balls later, he took his four-wicket haul as Thomas Aspinwall nicked one to the keeper. Raj Bawa then came back and dismissed the last batsman to take his fifer.
The youngsters impressed one and all with their terrific performance. Cricket writer Bharat Sundaresan tweeted, “These once-in-two-year #U19CWC always give me a feeling of eating at an unlimited Gujarati Thali restaurant. Like we’ve just about begun to savour the likes of Shivam Mavi & Kamlesh Nagarkoti & they’ve already left two tempting bowls of Ravi Kumar & Raj Bawa on the table #INDvENG”
