On being asked to express his emotions regarding his maiden Test CALL UP, by Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan responded that it is a feeling that cannot be described in words.

I am feeling excited. Even when I was doing well in white-ball cricket, my father used to tell me that test cricket is the real cricket, where there are challenges for the batters as well as the bowlers. Playing at that level is an altogether different feeling. When I learned about my selection, I was overjoyed. If I get the opportunity to represent India, I will try to give my best to help the team win,” Ishan Kishan said.

Ishan Kishan also revealed that it was him who broke the news of his Test selection to his family members. Ishan’s father was understandably overjoyed, and asked his son to keep on working hard and make the country proud.

Red ball presents an altogether different challenge for the batters. Ishan Kishan represents Jharkhand in First Class cricket and also plays as an opener. With so many openers already, it looks difficult for Ishan to make it to the XI as an opener, but still holds a chance in the middle-order.

An unfazed Ishan Kishan wants to enjoy the challenges of red-ball cricket

I thoroughly enjoy playing red-ball cricket. There is so much time in the game, and then there is sledging as well. Test cricket presents a unique challenge because you are sometimes in control of the situation and other times you have to grind it out and fight it out. I enjoyed playing in the Ranji Trophy competition.

Ishan Kishan has the reputation of taking on the bowlers right from the word go. He has done that in both ODIs and T20Is. Will he bank on the same approach to succeed in Test cricket? A question by Shubman Gill to which Ishan Kishan responded.

When batting at number six in Test cricket, it is critical to read the situation. If I make a bad shot and foul, I will let my team down. After gaining experience in ODIs and T20Is, I want to take my team to a winning situation. Yes, if a ball is there to be hit, then I will go for my shots. If the bowling is good, I will respect the bowlers and play according to the situation. ” Ishan Kishan concluded.

Chosen as a backup wicketkeeper for KS Bharat by the selectors, Ishan Kishan stands a good chance of making his debut against Australia. With no Rishabh Pant in the Test squad, due to the unfortunate accident in December 2022, the race for wicket-keeper spot is open.

Skipper Rohit Sharma has a choice to make. Ishan Kishan has presented his case, and being a left-hander also helps his case. Ishan Kishan smashed a double ton in ODIs in December 2022 against Bangladesh. Since then, he has been waiting in the wings for a chance in the playing XI.

If given a chance, Kishan needs to be ready to grab it with both hands. Test cricket will definitely test him, and there is a reason why it is called TEST CRICKET!
