Irfan lambasted the selectors on Twitter after being dissatisfied with India’s selection for the Test match against Australia. He tweeted: “Ranji trophy performances should be the first criteria for test selections!”

Irfan isn’t the only one to have reacted to this selection decision. Ex-India opener Aakash Chopra questioned the logic as well. He tweeted: “There was a bit of an opening in the Test squad…was hoping that Sarfaraz will make it to the squad. He’s done everything that one could do to deserve a call-up.”

Suryakumar did not play first-class cricket for three years. He made his return in late December last year, scoring 90 runs for Mumbai in a Ranji Trophy game.
Meanwhile, Sarfaraz has scored 928 runs at an average of 154.66 in 2019/20 season. 982 runs at an average of 122.75 in 2021/22 season and 431 runs so far at an average of 107.75 in the ongoing edition. He has scored 9 centuries and 5 fifties in Ranji Trophy over the last three seasons. Yet, he was not selected for the team.
