Cummins had returned home following a medical emergency in his family. While Australia hoped that Cummins would be back for the 3rd Test which starts March 1, he is now uncertain. It leaves Steve Smith with the only option to lead the side.

After the second Test, Smith spent four days in Dubai with his wife Dani before rejoining the Australia team on Thursday evening (India time), when he learned that Cummins had decided to skip the upcoming Test.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium’s training session on Friday morning included information for the entire Australia playing group. Before departing for Indore on Sunday, the Australians have two more days of training in the Indian capital.
After his restoration as vice-captain in late 2021, when Cummins replaced Tim Paine as captain, Smith will be in charge of the Test team for the third time.
David Warner Ruled OUT – Warner suffered a hairline fracture on his elbow after being struck by a Mohammed Siraj bouncer. While he batted with that elbow, he did not last long. But later, it was found that he had a concussion as well and was ruled out of the Delhi Test. Matt Renshaw replaced him.
