Earlier, sent to bat, Australia posted 90/5 in 8 overs with Matthew Wade smashing 20-ball 43 while Aaron Finch hammering 15-ball 31. The series-decider will now be played in Hyderabad on Sunday. Chasing a target of 91 in 8 overs wasn’t easy. But India could find themselves in a similar situation in T20 World Cup. It was a great warm-up in that regard. Rohit Sharma often criticised for not being there and finish the game off. But it was such a day for the Indian captain that whatever he hit went for big runs. India were off to a flyer with Rohit and KL Rahul scoring 30 runs in the two-over powerplay. 20 runs came off the first over of Josh Hazlewood.

Rohit was on the charge from the word go, taking on Hazlewood for two sixes. While Rahul was dismissed by Adam Zampa in the third over, India were still in a comfortable position. The Indian vice-captain scored 6-ball 10 but it wasn’t much of an assessment as he needed to go bang bang.
However, Zampa continued to rein over Virat Kohli. The ex-captain looked in good touch in his 6-ball stay but a brilliant delivery from Zampa cleaned him up. Suryakumar Yadav paid price for the same mistake and Zampa almost derailed India’s plans, removing SKY for a golden duck. With Zampa’s quota done at 3/16, Rohit took the charge back.

He hammered Daniel Sams and Sean Abbott while Hardik Pandya too fell cheaply. With 9 required off the last over, it was Dinesh Karthik who got the strike. But India’s Mr Finisher needed just two deliveries to finish things off. Sams’ first delivery went for a 6 and the next for a 4 as India clinched the match by 6 wickets with 4 balls to spare. Rohit remained unbeaten on 46 laced with 4 fours and 4 sixes.
Earlier, after a two-and-a-half-hour delay, the match finally began at 9:30 PM. There wasn’t much to asses in an 8-over game for a T20 World Cup. But it was the execution that could be compared to bowling in death overs in T20s. India had Jasprit Bumrah back to strengthen their bowling attack after much criticism.

Aaron Finch began well for Australia hammering 31 off 15 deliveries. But it was Axar Patel who continued to shine in Ravindra Jadeja’s absence. With two wickets for 13 runs in two overs, he was the best bowler of the lot.

However, Jasprit Bumrah also showed what India were missing. His steering yorker cleaned Aaron Finch up. Another steering yorker forced Steve Smith on the ground. While he was on the little expensive side, it was expected considering he was playing a competitive match after two months. Bumrah ended up with 1/23 in his two. Rohit Sharma wasn’t upset with his bowling though.
“He is coming back after a couple of months. The back injury can be tricky. I am not going to talk too much about how he bowled. He got us the crucial wicket. As a team, we are not going to analyse too much. I just wanted him to come and enjoy,” Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation.
But it was yet another Matthew Wade show. In two matches, he has taken Indian bowling attack to the cleaners and has taken a particular liking of Harshal Patel. It wasn’t any different on Friday. After Axar Patel slowed down the scoring rate, Wade took charge, hammering 20-ball 43, laced with three sixes and four boundaries. His efforts took Australia to 90/5 in 8.
