IND vs SL 1st T20: Magnificent Shivam Mavi scripts India win at Wankhede, bags 4/22 in DREAM DEBUT – Watch Highlights
Bowling just his first over, Shivam Mavi did spray it around before getting one back in to dismiss the dangerous Pathum Nissanka. He followed it up with the wicket of Dhananjaya de Silva to hit straight to Sanju Samson. Mavi bowled at good pace and used his movement well early on.
He then later bowled tight lines to keep the Lankan batters at bay. The former U19 World Cup star hit the hard lengths and used his variations to good effect to halt SriLanka’s comeback in the later half. In his 3rd over, Mavi got the better of a set Wanindu Hasaranga. The SL vice-captain looked dangerous but was sent back for 21. Maheesh Theekshana was his fourth strike of the day.
Mavi finished with figures of 4-0-22-4, joining the likes of Barinder Sran and Pragyan Ojha as the only three men’s players to take four wickets on T20I debut for India. Sravanthi Naidu has also taken a four-wicket haul for India on her debut in women’s T20Is.

“I was playing Ranji Trophy when I saw my name on the list. As soon as I learnt of my selection, for a split second, everything came to a standstill. I called my family and gave them the news. They were happier than me. When I wore the Indian jersey, I just kept looking at me. I remembered my U19 days when I wore the Indian jersey for the first time. It was an emotional moment for me and I felt proud on myself,” said Mavi.
Back in 2018, Mavi made a name for himself for his sheer pace after India won the U19 World Cup in NewZealand. Thereafter, Mavi bagged a lucrative deal with the Kolkata Knight Riders and was there with the Indian Premier League franchise for five seasons. Recently, Gujarat Titans secured his services at a price of INR 6 crore and Mavi’s joy doubled after his maiden India call up.
