“The Test series went quite well for the team. I do think momentum is a real thing & that momentum is with us. Obviously it’s a different format, different skill-set, different type of pressure. We will have the momentum & India will be under pressure”, Bavuma was quoted by the local media.

IND-SA 1st ODI LIVE Streaming: Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma’s BIG-TALK, ‘Momentum with SA, India will struggle’: Follow Ball by Ball LIVE Updates

India’s last ODI tour in South Africa saw them claim a 5-1 defeat in 2017/18. Proteas batting completely struggle against spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.

But Bavuma shrugged that defeated by saying, he wasn’t involved in the series.

Bavuma did not divulge too much on South Africa’s batting order, but did confirm that he’ll come in at number three.

“Quinton upfront and Janneman have done fairly well so I don’t see that changing. I’ll come back into the picture at number three,” said Bavuma.

“The real conversation comes in the middle-order whether we want to go with an extra batter or all-rounder at number six.”

South Africa have not recorded an ODI series win since March 2020. Bavuma, who is playing in his first ODI since September, says that he hopes to transfer his red-ball form to the ODI set-up.

“The Test series went quite well for the team and for me personally. My feet seemed to move nicely and I’ve been hitting the ball well, and I’d like to carry on with that momentum and feeling,” Bavuma told reporters on Tuesday.

“I have an opportunity in the ODI’s and people ask if there’s anything that has changed and done differently, and to be honest, no.

“I’ve been doing things the same, maybe it’s just a good period of form for me. Tomorrow is a tomorrow.”

Kagiso Rabada Rested: De Kock’s return has, though, been equalised through the resting of Kagiso Rabada for the one-dayers.

After regaining some of his long lost form, and more importantly hunger for battle, Rabada will put his feet up until the team departs for New Zealand in a couple of weeks time.

Spin-bowling all-rounder George Linde has instead been retained from the Test squad, which could give Bavuma a couple more options to consider in the middle-order, especially with the Boland Park pitch expected to bake under the searing Paarl sun.

“It’s probably more the middle order, whether we want to go with an extra batter or an all-rounder at No 6,” he said. “As a captain, you always like to have as many resources as you can from a bowling front.

“You accept that one bowler isn’t going to hit his straps on the day, so to be able to have an adequate replacement for him is a luxury. It’s something we still need to settle on but I would like to have as many options as I can. That’s the real conversation that needs to happen.”
