Unadkat is currently in Rajkot, waiting to complete his visa formalities. He is expected to link up with the Test squad in Chattogram over the next couple of days.
India is set to play two Tests in Bangladesh. The 31-year-old left-arm pacer played his only Test in 2010, against South Africa in Centurion. Since then, he has played seven ODIs and 10 Twenty20 Internationals but was never considered for the five-day game.
Jaydev Unadkat comeback to Team India
Jaydev Unadkat has been in and around Team India for over a decade.
Unadkat replacing Shami may not be quite a like-for-like replacement. As per sources, the experienced pacer was chosen based on his current form. He picked up 19 wickets in 10 games during the just concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy, making him the tournament’s top wicket-taker.
Unadkat would break Parthiv Patel’s record for the longest time between two Tests by an Indian cricketer if he is given the opportunity to play in one of the two Tests in Bangladesh.
The left-arm bowler, who is 31 years old, played his one Test match at Centurion against South Africa in 2010. He has since participated in 10 Twenty20 and seven One Day Internationals, but was never a candidate for the five-day match.
