Replacing the injured Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill made a statement with a stunning century at Chattogram. After a low score in the 1st innings, Gill made merry on Day 3 of India vs Bangladesh 1st Test. While captain KL Rahul once again departed early, Gill stitched a fine partnership with Cheteshwar Pujara to extend India’s dominance.

Gill eventually managed 110 off just 152 balls, lacing it with 10 boundaries and three sixes. He was dismissed trying to up the rate as India looked to declare having taken the lead past 400. The 23-year-old’s form adds to coach Rahul Dravid;’s dilemma as Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are woefully out of form.

Shubman had a fine start to his test career in Australia but eventually lost his place to KL Rahul due to loss of form and injuries. KL’s elevation to vice-captaincy meant that chances came rarely towards Gill. Now filling in for Rohit, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
Rohit’s injury struggles and KL Rahul’s loss of form add to Rahul Dravid’s selection headache. Rohit will return for the 2nd test, but Gill will be heard to drop after his sensational century.
