Having returned to India and resumed his duties as NCA chief, VVS Laxman will lead the India A side in their multi-format series against New Zealand. The developmental India side are set to play three four-day matches in Bengaluru before moving to Chennai for their 50-over matches.
Normally NCA chiefs take charge of the India A sides like Rahul Dravid has done so many times in the past, and Laxman is all set to continue the same. It will be the first A tour with Laxman as head coach with the tours being scarce amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Laxman takes over from Sitanshu Kotak, a member of his coaching staff at the NCA alongside Sairaj Bahutule. Earlier, BCCI had elevated Kotak to the role in the NCA chief’s absence but Laxman’s return should restore normalcy. Kotak and Bahutule will continue to assist during the tour, serving as batting and bowling coaches respectively.
Incidentally, Kotak and Bahutule had accompanied Laxman on the tour of Ireland where a Hardik Pandya-led India side played two T20is. Bahutule was again part of the backroom staff that was in place during the tour of Zimbabwe. Kotak had stayed back with U1-9 coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar doubling up as batting coach.
