India looking to claim top spot in ICC ODI rankings
The Men in blue can not only topple New Zealand from the top spot but will also take the no 1 spot in the ODI format. New Zealand currently holds the No 1 spot in ICC Rankings but India can replace them with a 3-0 whitewash. Going by the current ODI standings India is ranked 4th behind New Zealand, England, and Australia with 110 points.
UPDATE – Team India batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match ODI series against New Zealand due to a back injury.
Rajat Patidar has been named as his replacement.

A 3-0 whitewash against New Zealand will take them to 114 points, while the Kiwis will drop down to 4th place due to negative points. There will not be a change in standings for England and Australia as they will stay put on the No 2 and No 3 spots respectively. However, beating New Zealand will not be easy for India as they have recently shown how tough the team is in the ODI format. The Kiwis came from behind to beat Pakistan 2-1 in the three-match ODI series.

International Cricket Council has made a big blunder. ICC website glitch had put India as World No 1 in Tests momentarily, taking away Australia’s gains. Instead of Australia’s 126 points, ICC gave Rohit Sharma & Co 115 rating points, making them the new World No 1. Australia only had 111 instead of 126. But ICC has now corrected the website and Australia is back as the World No 1. Instead, India will only become the new World No 1 if they beat Australia at home in the Test series.

India will face Australia in the first Test at Nagpur on Feb 9. The remaining three Tests of the series will be played in Delhi (Feb 17-21), Dharamsala (March 1-5), and Ahmedabad (March 9-13).
