Pakistan hockey in dire straits, PHF owes PKR 80 million to players & employees

At the recent FIH Olympic qualifiers, Pakistan hockey team lost to New Zealand, and failed to make cut for Paris 2024.

A few days after Pakistan men’s hockey team failed to make it to the Paris 2024 Olympics, yet another bad news has surfaced from the team camp. As per a report, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has not paid its employees in the last six months.

The report further says that 80 office and ground employees have not been getting any medical benefits also, by the federation. Not just that, the players too, haven’t bee paid their contract salaries, or even allowances, in the last 4-5 months. That also includes the Olympic qualifiers in Oman.

It is also learnt that skipper Imad Shakeel Butt and some other players as well, clashed with the team management during the Olympic qualifiers, for the non-payment of money. At one stage Butt even threatened not to play further matches until the dailies were cleared,” the source said.

The report also suggested that the government has stopped giving funds to the PHF, and its accounts have also been suspended. due to an ongoing inquiry into financial misappropriation of funds. “Presently the PHF is said to owe around 80 million rupees in dues to its employees, players, coaches and other clients,” the source added.
