Indian women’s hockey team go down against WR-1 Netherlands in FIH Pro League 2023-24

The loss to the Netherlands was Indian Women's Hockey Team's fifth loss in the six games played in FIH Pro League

The Indian women’s hockey team displayed notable improvement in their defensive performance against the formidable Netherlands. However, their lack of sharpness and creativity in attack resulted in a 0-1 loss to the top-ranked Dutch side in the FIH Pro League match held in Rourkela on Wednesday.

This defeat marks the home team’s fifth loss in six Pro League games. The only goal of the match came from a superb 27th-minute field goal by Albers Felice, showcasing the reigning champions’ prowess.

Despite the Dutch dominance, credit is due to the Indian defense, particularly goalkeeper Savita, who thwarted numerous attacks. The goal stemmed from persistent pressure applied by the Dutch midway through the second quarter.

Although India had their chances, including several penalty corners in the third quarter, they failed to convert. Even a yellow card for Savita in the 38th minute didn’t deter the Indian defense, with substitute goalkeeper Bichu Devi making a crucial save.
