Set to bat first after losing the toss, England took charge of the game from the second over. They experienced an early setback when Jason Roy was dismissed for just 1 run. After that began the deadly attack from the Britishers. Philip Salt and Dawid Malan went on to build strong innings.

Both Salt and Malan set the pace of the game with their respective centuries. After their dismissal came the skipper Jos Buttler who lead the charge. His carnage was later supported by Liam Livingstone who registered the second-fastest fifty in ODI history. A brilliant fifty in just 17 deliveries. At the end of the play, the scoreboard read 498/4, which meant England bettered their own record and now have set the bar for the highest ever runs score in ODI cricket.

- England became the second team ever in the history of ODI cricket where three batters score a century each. Jos Buttler, Philip Salt, and Dawid Malan scored tons for England. The only other team to have achieved this feat twice is South Africa.
