The agreement between Linekar and BBC should be announced tomorrow after a week of Nazi tweets row. MPs and pals of Lineker will pore over the details to see who has backed down. If the star presenter has not apologised or promised to follow impartiality standards moving forward, it runs the risk of igniting a potentially explosive new dispute between the BBC and the Conservative party.
Director General Tim Davie has been under massive pressure to find a solution after schedules were hammered for two consecutive days. A TV source said, ‘Gary will be back to host the BBC’s FA Cup coverage. A deal has been struck.
