With the other formula 1 teams like Red Bull and Ferrari doing so well in the testing, even the main driver, Hamilton is concerned about the team falling behind.
The team failed to win the title challenge last season, 2022. They highlighted the mistakes made last season and are clearly determined to fix the issues and do what it takes to be a better version this time.

Along with the upgrades that were made on the model, the team admitted about the ‘ no side-pods concept ‘ might land up being the ground of its failure. A lot of work has been devoted to improvements to the W14, with a sidepod revamp coming for around the time of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola.
In spite of the long hours of effort put in by the team, the model is still not at its best, Hamilton believes that the Mercedes team has to do some serious work on the model.

The Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff says his squad to make an immediate call about the design direction of its Formula 1 car. Wolff mentions that his team needs to choose one or the other direction. So it’s either upgrading the model to a whole new level or changing the model itself.
He believes that the current Mercedes concept is not going to be good enough to be able to win any titles at that pace.
Wolff is adamant about making bold decisions straight away, rather than delaying things any further. The team principal already knows with that pace in the track, it is not going to be enough to get Mercedes to the front of the grid.
On being questioned about the difficulties of developing an all-new design under the cost cap, Wolff replied “I am not sure the budget cap gives you constraints in the position where we are, but we do need to decide which direction we are going in and put all the resources behind it. We are still developing one car. The question is just which car.”
