Formula 1: Sergio Perez unhappy with Red Bull team tactics: Red Bull’s Mexican driver wasn’t happy with the team’s tactics after he finished second in the Spanish Grand Prix. He feels he had a clear chance of winning the race but the tactics used by the team prevented him from doing so. Follow Formula 1 Live Updates on InsideSport.IN.

Perez, who sees himself third in the Drivers’ standings said, “I think what was clear was that the three-stop was a better race, race time, and the various strategies, so I think if I went in that direction, I would have won the race.”

“And it worked out for Max. I think that was something we discussed. It was good because we didn’t know at the time which strategy was going to be the best one,” he further added.

There was a time in the race when max was fighting it out with Russell for the second place as Leclerc was leading. Meanwhile, the Mercedes driver didn’t give any space to the Dutch driver to overtake him and Leclerc started to build his lead at the front.

That is when Perez came out of the pits and told the team on the radio that let him pass Verstappen so that he can easily overtake Russell as Max was suffering from a DRS issue. However, the team did not seem too interested. Later on, Perez took the lead of the race but again was told to give his position back to Verstappen as this decision was literally not liked by the Mexican.

‘Checo’ further explained, “I only felt that in the first stint, when I gave the position to Max, that I was told that I was going to get it back. When I was on the two-stop I felt that I could have gone through Max and George a bit earlier to try and make the strategy work, but probably it wouldn’t have been enough.”

However, despite Checo’s troubles, it was a good race for Red Bull as they claimed the top spot in the Constructors’ championship with a hefty lead of 26 points over Ferrari. Meanwhile, in the Drivers’ standings, Verstappen took the lead from Leclerc and is now 6 points ahead of the Monegasque driver.

Meanwhile, Sergio Perez climbed to the third spot and has 85 points to his name. He is trailing Charles Leclerc by 19 points after securing a 1-2 finish at Barcelona.
