“Are we among the top teams in any of these areas? No, I don’t think so. But you have to remember that this engine has helped us win eight championships in a row. Now we just all have to grab each other by the scruff of the neck. And with all our strength, pull ourselves out of this mess.”

Mercedes had a tough Pre-season in which both Red Bull and Ferrari had more promising results. It was Ferrari with a 1-2 finish in the Bahrain Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc took the maximum points in Bahrain by winning the race followed by Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton.

Formula 1: Red Bull vs Mercedes fight: Sergio Perez clinched his maiden pole position in Saudi Arabia Grand Prix. But, with the crash of Nicholas Latifi and the safety car period he dropped to the fourth position. It was heartbreaking for the Mexican driver. However, Christian Horner feels that Mercedes shouldn’t be written off after just two races. They are a strong team and have dominated the sport at will. They will bounce back.

Even Helmut Marko, the Red Bull advisor feels Mercedes ‘will come back’. Marko said, “Hamilton is only nine points behind Verstappen. They are not writing off the world championship at all. They will come back, for sure. It will probably end in a three-way fight.”

Christian Horner feels the same way Helmut Marko feels. Plus, he has warned his team that Mercedes will join the battle.

Horner said, “When Mercedes get their problems sorted they’re going to be in there. So that’s potentially six drivers who are going to be in contention every weekend. For the fans, that’s going to be fantastic.”

“I have no doubt that at some point, Mercedes will join that battle. But my focus is very much on our team. I know I’ve got a great team and we’ll just keep our heads down.”

Now the focus shifts to the third round in the 2022 Formula 1 season. The Australian Grand Prix will take place from 8th to 10th April. Mercedes have time in which they can asses their problems and fix them. Red Bull needs to continue what they are doing as the season progresses.
