“We realise that we have a mountain to climb. It’s been an interesting few days, it’s never easy. There’s been a lot of discovery,” said Lewis Hamilton.
“I think the thing I’ve been most impressed with is, it’s my 11th year with the team and everyone’s turned up with the same mentality, working hard, no one’s been complacent,” he added.
“We realise that we have a mountain to climb and no one’s fussed, everyone has just kept their heads down so I’m really proud of that.”
Hamilton previously stated that Mercedes had the same “balancing limitations” as last year, despite their ambitions of being title contenders from the start this season.
“We’re not quite where we want to be but it’s a good platform to start from,” he added.

“It’s a much more beautiful world to be in when we’re not bouncing but we do have some pace to pick up in a straight line. We have some things we need to work on, it’s still not perfect and we’re still not able to match the Red Bulls, or the Ferraris, currently.”

What Lewis thinks will help them to get back?
Mercedes has to enhance its raw performance, according to Lewis Hamilton, but the team has a decent foundation to build on after making progress on the final day of pre-season testing in Bahrain.
The new W14 keeps Mercedes’ narrow sidepods design from 2022, but the first day of testing revealed it had successfully addressed its porpoising concerns from last year. However, the team struggled on day two due to poor handling, prompting Hamilton to call the test as “tough,” before heading out in the final session and finishing second quickest to end on a positive note.
