The son of legendary driver and three-time F1 champion Niki Lauda, Mathias Lauda has echoed similar views as he has claimed “He’s really having a difficult time driving around in the midfield. It’s still early days, but Lewis has only had problems so far. For George Russell, on the other hand, everything is new for him in a factory team.”

The criticism didn’t end here as Michael Schumacher’s brother Ralf Schumacher also feels Russell is doing better than Hamilton. “Hamilton is finding out that Russell is of a very different calibre to Bottas. We can see that Russell is just handling the situation better now and I’m sure that annoys Lewis. Lewis is obviously selfish, but we all are as drivers. I used to be too,” claimed Schumacher.
George Russell so far has been the shining light for Mercedes this season. He is the only driver who has finished in the top 5 in the first five races. The youngster seems confident while driving the W13 challenger despite its challenges, and one big reason behind this could be his stint at Williams, where he drove a not-easy-to-drive car.

The 1997 F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve also didn’t hold back and said, “George Russell is riding the wave, Lewis Hamilton is trying not to drown. Lewis’ champion’s luck seems to have left him, he doesn’t have the momentum and nothing’s going his way. It’s going to be a tough fight, but Lewis is a racer and a champion. He knows what needs to be done and we’ll see if he still has the energy to do it.”
Russell is firmly placed in the fourth spot in the Drivers’ standings. On the other hand, Hamilton looks to struggle as he just can’t get on top of the car.
