During its impressive performance during the winter testing, Alonso’s podium finish for the Silverstone-based team in the Bahrain Grand Prix, caused Aston Martin to break the mould.

Finishing seventh in the 2022 Constructors’ Championship, it tried to bridge the gap from the midfield to the frontrunners in the season opener at Sakhir. With this pace, Aston has established itself as a strong competitor against Mercedes for the third position.

While being curious about the changing forms at Jeddah and Australia, Alonso commented “I’m curious to see if we can keep this form in different circuits. But, on the other hand, I think the car that we have now is just a very basic car that we launched and we start the season with this completely new concept.”

“I think there is a lot more to come in terms of development with this project, so I’m optimistic for that.” He further added with confidence.

Aston had made considerable progress through 2022, but fell short of overtaking Alfa Romeo in the constructors’ standings. The team principal, Mike Krack encouraged his team to start from a strong baseline after hitting the aggressive aero targets over the winter.

The team principal highlighted how during the last year they managed to get better over the season. However, the racing intensity and the other cost  factors makes it really hard to balance. Karck further insisted on the principle of starting from a good baseline as it becomes really difficult to spend the capital on development.

Applauding the team, Krack also said that the targets for the car were aggressive, but the team managed to achieve quite great results. He also said that the development plan is in place, but then the competitors also have a plan in place as well.
