Alonso, who drives for Alpine, recently said that he wishes to drive in the sport for another 2-3 years. “I’ll drive a few more years. Two or three more years. If with Alpine, then good. If with another team, then fine too. I’ll find out about that. I’ll probably start the discussions in the summer,” the Spaniard said.

Fernando Alonso is in his second season since getting back to Formula 1 with Alpine and has had a promising start to the 2022 campaign. He just has two points to show for the initial four rounds, but that does not reflect his performances fairly as he has been unfortunate with DNFs in Saudi Arabia and Imola while a hydraulic issue denied him a shot at pole position in Melbourne.
Though he is 40 years of age now, Alonso is still enthusiastic about driving and contending in the pinnacle of motorsport. He fuelled the theory he could leave Alpine by proposing joining another group is a suitable choice and Aston Martin could move for him.
Alonso’s seat at Alpine is not secured due to the rise of Australian driver Oscar Piastri, who is currently the reserve driver of the team. He is managed by Mark Webber, who would be pushing him for a seat in F1 as he doesn’t want to see him sitting on the sidelines for yet another year.

On the other hand, Vettel has said that he is yet to decide on his future, hinting that he could retire at the end of 2022. The rumours went into overdrive when Alonso neglected to show up at the opening ceremony ahead of the Miami Grand Prix. Szafnauer, Laurent Rossi (CEO), and Esteban Ocon were all present, but the two-time world champion was nowhere to be seen. It was viewed as especially abnormal given how Alonso posted about his excitement for the Miami occasion on many occasions.
