Australian GP: Formula 1 Live: Christian Horner, the head of Red Bull, acknowledged that Sergio Perez had a “horrible day” at the Australian Grand Prix. He mentioned “nothing went right” for the formula one driver. On qualifying day, Perez was undoubtedly the main draw for all the wrong reasons. It seemed like his problems began during a terrifying FP3 exercise. The Red Bull driver struggled to maintain the RB19 on the road, watching push lap after push lap fail. Additionally, earlier on Saturday at Albert Park, in final practice, he ran off the track three times.
“It was a terrible day, really bad,” said Perez. He also mentioned how this problem existed in P3. He claimed that those FP3 problems were caused by a problem with his car. When Perez locked up at Turn 3 on his opening Q1 run, he claimed that this proved the fixes had failed. This time, he was left there as his session came to a close without a time being displayed.

He stated that he believed the problem could be resolved. Of course, it didn’t seem to be. He is very hopeful that he can make it work. Otherwise, racing in this manner will be very challenging. Perez will therefore commence the Australian Grand Prix at the rear of the field.
Horner was asked about Perez in an interview and he did state that it was a horrible day for him. Horner also mentioned going over all the data to see if anything related to engine management may have played a role.
He mentioned the team doing everything to figure out if there is an issue. As soon as they find one they are going to fix it and make sure that the issue does not exist tomorrow.

Horner lastly mentioned, “Our strategy was slightly different. We weren’t doing the build lap and push lap, particularly that last one, so it was all about getting the optimum out-lap, getting the temperature that he needed in and then nailing the lap which is exactly what he did.”
