Daniel Ricciardo, who claimed the thirteenth spot in the Monaco Grand Prix said, “The reality is I’ve not forgotten how to drive in six months, I haven’t lost my competitive edge, it’s just kind of a moment in time that I knew I could come out of.”

“More times than not, I’ll kind of chuckle at the doubt. Because even last year, for sure, there were times where I was trying to figure it out. But already in April and May [last year] there were articles like ‘he’s lost it,’ but six months earlier in 2020 I was regarded as one of the standout drivers of that season,” he further opined.

Such is the degree of the examination evened out against the Formula 1 star in the wake of recording a single podium finish in 29 race starts for the group. Ricciardo won last year’s Italian Grand Prix in transit to completing eighth overall in his first season with McLaren.

It is not only pundits who are critical of his performances, but his team also thinks the same. McLaren’s CEO, Zak Brown, as of late implied that it’s possible that McLaren can cut ties with the Australian driver. Although, his contract with the team is till 2023.

Ricciardo has won only 11 points after seven races up to this point this year and sits eleventh in the drivers’ standings. Meanwhile, his teammate Lando Norris claims the seventh spot and has gathered 48 points. Moreover, both the drivers have one retirement to their name.

The Australian driver really needs to get his head together and start showing results on the track. If that’s not the case then McLaren might cut their ties with the Honey Badger and move on. But for that to happen, they need to give Ricciardo a competitive car that can fight against the likes of Ferrari, Red Bull, and Mercedes.
