According to the Football Association, James’ withdrawal is due to an “assessment of an ongoing issue” and he will not play in England’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Ukraine at Wembley. He came on in the final seconds of Thursday’s 2-1 victory over Italy. England has no intention of calling up a replacement for James.

James missed the World Cup in Qatar due to a knee injury, and the 23-year-old returned to Chelsea action in February after suffering another setback in December. Gareth Southgate has decided not to call up a replacement, with Kieran Trippier or Kyle Walker likely to start against Ukraine.
So far this season, James has made only 12 Premier League appearances due to a knee injury, as well as a hamstring problem. James missed the World Cup in Qatar due to the aforementioned knee injury, and he has already been ruled out of 18 games for the Blues in 2022-23.
The news about James will worry Chelsea manager Graham Potter, whose team plays Aston Villa at home on April 1. Because of James’ absence, England manager Gareth Southgate will be without another player for the game against Ukraine.
