Antonio Conte: The love story between Tottenham Hotspur and Antonio Conte is nearing its end. When Conte was signed by Spurs, there was a lot of optimism around the club and people believed that the Italian could take the London club to the top. Quite the opposite has happened as Spurs have struggled and are out of contention for every trophy in March. In the post-match conference, he went on a scathing rant against Tottenham and was very vocal about his displeasure. The Spurs coach was seething at his team’s performance and has also returned to Italy for a short break after his rant as Tottenham drew 3-3 with Southampton. The first-team squad knows it is impossible that £15 million-a-year Conte, who is out of contract this summer will be in charge next season. After his rant, there are also rumors that Daniel Levy might sack Conte before their next Premier League clash.
Likewise, a few players would be content to see Conte fired during the break for international play. In an unprecedented outburst on Saturday, Conte criticized the players and the Tottenham owners, calling the situation ‘unacceptable’.

In a scathing rant following the Southampton game, Conte said, ‘They don’t play for something important. They don’t want to play under pressure, they don’t want to play under stress. It is easy this way. Tottenham’s story is this. For 20 years there is the owner but they never won something but why?’
He continued, ‘The fault is only for the club, or for every manager that stays here? I have seen the managers that Tottenham had on the bench. Until now I try to hide the situation but not now because, I repeat, I don’t want to see what I have seen today because this is unacceptable and also un- acceptable for the fans’
Many people agreed that Conte’s assessment of Tottenham was spot on. But, making his feelings known in such a public way means that his sacking is now imminent. The North Londoners have won one trophy since the current owners took over the club in 2001 and that was the EFL Cup in 2008.
Spurs have had 11 different managers in that time since the current owners took over, including three since the 2019 departure of Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine coach took them to the UCL final in 2019 but was sacked just 6 months later. Now, with Conte staring at the exit door, it seems as though Pochettino could be a real option to come back. Only time will tell what Levy decides to do.
