“Manchester United FC has been fined £65,000 after its players surrounded a match official during the 71st minute of their tie against Fulham FC in The FA Cup on Sunday 19 March 2023,” the statement reads. “The club admitted that it failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and do not behave in a way which is improper. Manchester United FC’s fine was imposed by an independent Regulatory Commission following a subsequent hearing.”

Mitrovic blocked Jadon Sancho’s goal-bound shot on the line, but Kavanagh first signalled play to continue, setting off the protests. However, a penalty was awarded following a VAR review, and Willian was then dismissed. For their responses to the occurrences, manager Marco Silva and Aleksandr Mitrovic were both fired. At the time, no penalties were imposed on Man United players.

The club was nonetheless charged in the days that followed, and in spite of an initial appeal, the Old Trafford side has now conceded the allegations. The club received a £65,000 fine, which the FA also confirmed. With the fine, the Red Devils are now the team that has been penalised the most this year.

With three additional offences, this is the club’s fourth fine this year. For prior infractions of failing to control its players in the games against Newcastle, Chelsea, and Crystal Palace in October and January, United was fined £137,000. As a result, the club has received a total fine of £202,000 this year.
