Speaking to TV3, de Jong once again cleared the air surrounding his transfer away from FC Barcelona. The 25-year old midfielder said, “Hopefully I can play in the new Camp Nou. Barcelona has always been the club of my dreams and I want to stay here for many years. For me, Camp Nou is the most beautiful stadium in the world. The plans for the stadium are very good. To continue here for many years. Barca is the team of my dreams.“

Camp Nou will not be hosting matches of Barcelona’s home games from next season probably as the stadium is set to renovate. Moreover, Barcelona will be back at Camp Nou in 2026 and de Jong hopes to stay at Barca till then.

De Jong’s contract will expire in kid 2026 and it will solely depend on his next contract extension whether he will be available for Barca or not after that. The midfielder even took pay cut last summer in order to help his club reduce the wage bills and register other players.
He might become one of the key players in Barca’s midfield and is seen as the ideal Sergio Busquets replacement despite having a different playstyle. However, he was often seen filling in the midfielder’s boot and even in the centre-back role.
