Barcelona Gavi Registration: La Liga club FC Barcelona has received a major blow in their attempt to register Gavi as a first-team player. According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barca’s appeal against the decision to overturn Gavi’s registration for the first team has been unsuccessful. As a result, the 18-year-old will return to his previous youth contract, and can only return to the first team if Barcelona reduces their wage bill. Follow Football LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN
In January, Barcelona registered Gavi as a first-team player and was given the number 6 shirt. However, La Liga filed an appeal to overturn the registration, claiming that Barcelona had missed the deadline. In March, the court ruled in La Liga’s favor. However, the club appealed the ruling which has now been rejected by the Tenth Commercial Court in the city. The Catalans have the option to appeal the decision within 20 days at the Provincial Court.

If Barcelona wants to register Gavi in the first team, they will need to reduce their wage bill. However, the club is in a tricky position as Liverpool and Manchester City are reportedly monitoring the situation and are keen to get the 18-year-old in the summer transfer window.
Notably, Gavi signed a four-year deal in September which included a €1bn release clause. As part of the new deal, Gavi is allowed to leave on a free transfer in the summer if he still hasn’t been registered as a first-team player by June 30, 2023. If the club fails to register the Spaniard, there is a high chance that clubs like Liverpool and Manchester City might swoop in the wonder kid by offering a mouth-watering contract.
