Kerala Blasters Walkout: Kerala Blasters Apology: Ivan Vukomanovic Apology: Kerala Blasters’ walkout against Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) playoffs was regretted by the team and its head coach, Ivan Vukomanovic, in a recent statemt by the club. The club was fined Rs 4 crore by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Disciplinary Committee on Friday, and Vukomanovic received a Rs 4 lakh punishment and a 10-game suspension. Kerala Blasters FC has been fined Rs. 4 crore by the All India Football Association (AIFF) for “walking off the pitch and thereby forfeiting” their ISL 2022-23 semifinal match against Bengaluru FC, the governing body said on Friday. The Vaibhav Gaggar-led Disciplinary Committee also stated that the Kerala Blasters must make a public apology. Kerala Blasters on Sunday, issues a public apo;ogy for the same.

“We recognise that our decision to walk off the pitch prematurely was unfortunate and taken in the heat of the moment.” Kerala Blasters said in the statement.

Ivan Vukomanovic, head coach of the Blasters, was also given a 10-match suspension from AIFF-held tournaments and fined Rs 5 lakh under Article 9.1.2 as part of the AIFF Disciplinary Committee’s order on Friday. The committee claimed he was responsible for the team’s abandonment of the game and brought the sport into disrepute (of the AIFF disciplinary code).

Vukomanovic won’t be permitted to use the team bench or the locker room as a result of this. A “public apology” for his inappropriate behaviour has also been mandated for Vukomanovic, failing which the fine and suspension would be increased to Rs 10 lakh.

Vukomanovic in a statement said, “It has been a couple of weeks since we were all caught by negative circumstances that happened on 3rd March this year during our last game. It is certainly devastating to all football fans to witness and see such a thing. The emotion and love input in this beautiful game by fans, players, technical & medical staffs, media, etc. around the globe is priceless, and no one deserves nor wants to be actor of such an event.

“These things are not supposed to be seen in sport arenas around the world and | regret being part of such a moment. As a man of sport and football, | was always promoting correct conduct and fair play. These are without a doubt, some of the most important values of football game, and most of all, parts of sport education that we all have to pass to our future generations.”

Notwithstanding the walkout, Blasters fans showed a tremendous amount of support for the squad because they have the largest fan following in the ISL. Following a highly contested goal by Bengaluru’s Sunil Chhetri off a free kick, the Blasters left the pitch. The club from Kochi had already complained to the AIFF about how referee Crystal John had allowed Chhetri to take the free kick that led to the goal. Yet it was turned down.
