“We can confirm that we’ll play at Audi Field in Washington D.C. on July 19, against an MLS All-Stars team led by D.C. United Head Coach Wayne Rooney.” the statement from Arsenal read.
Mikel Arteta added: “It’s great that we’re playing against the MLS All-Stars in Washington D.C. in July. Our US tour last summer was very good preparation for the season, and we’re looking forward to once again visiting our amazing supporters in the US. The match against the MLS All-Stars will be a good test ahead of the 2023/24 season.”
The Major League Soccer announced on Tuesday that it would return to its most popular All-Star format. The league began pitting its best players against European opponents in 2005, but announced in November 2019 that it would switch to pitting its All-Stars against Liga MX’s All-Stars. The 2020 match in Los Angeles was cancelled due to the pandemic, but the format was used the following two years, with MLS winning on penalty kicks in Los Angeles in 2021 and 2-1 last year in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Arsenal previously faced MLS All-Star in 2016. In 2016, the league’s best players were defeated 2-1 by the Gunners in San Jose, California. Arsenal’s goals came from Joel Campbell and Chuba Akpom, while the MLS All-Stars’ goal came from Didier Drogba. The match for this year will take place on July 19 at Audi Field, home of D.C. United. Arsenal will join Manchester United (2010 and 2011) and Chelsea (2006 and 2012) as the third European club to appear in two MLS All-Star Games. The previous European opponent was Atlético Madrid, who won 3-0 in Orlando, Florida in 2019.
