FIFA World Cup 2022 is set to be Lionel Messi’s last attempt toward winning football’s biggest prize. Fans across the globe would love to see Messi lift the coveted prize but Brazil’s icon Ronaldo definitely wouldn’t.

Ronaldo admitted to reporters that he isn’t exactly to see Messi lift the World Cup next month. “The Brazil-Argentina rivalry is so big. We had incredible battles, with respect, and that’s the loveliest thing in football. But Argentina winning the World Cup doesn’t bear thinking about“, Ronaldo admitted.
The Brazilian however, completely agrees that Messi deserved to win the World Cup. “Of course he does (deserve) – but not with my support. I love him and he’ll understand because I’m sure he would feel exactly the same way“, the former World Cup Golden Boot winner added.

The Brazil-Argentina rivalry is one of the most passionate and fierce rivalries in football and it’s understandable why Ronaldo doesn’t want Messi to lift the World Cup. To date, Argentina has won the World Cup twice while Brazil is the most successful nation with five World Cup titles. Messi’s Argentina came very close to winning a third in 2014 but fell just short to Germany in the final on Brazilian soil.

Even though the legendary Ronaldo wouldn’t really like to see Argentina win the World Cup, the La Albiceleste appear to be a very closely-knit unit and they will be desperate to give it their all in what is certainly Lionel Messi’s last World Cup.
They are placed in a tricky Group C comprising Mexico, Poland, and Saudi Arabia but the Argentines are certainly the favourites on paper to qualify as group toppers. If all their core players play to their maximum potential at the World Cup, the two-time champions could very well go all the way and clinch their third World Cup title.
