Just a week ahead of the Qatar World Cup, Netflix are set to release their eye-opening docuseries regarding corruption in FIFA under Sepp Blatter and much more. A number of issues like Wire fraud, money laundering, racketeering and tax evasion are other subjects mentioned in the one minute 36 seconds trailer released by Netflix.
The official Netflix Twitter handle revealed the trailer and release date with the caption: “For decades, FIFA united the globe through football. But behind the game, craftier schemes were at play. FIFA has been under tremendous pressure from all sections of the globe since awarding the World Cup hosting rights to Qatar. Besides the allegations of bribery and unfair bidding process, Qatar’s sustainability as a host country and its treatment of migrant labourers are burning issues even now.
Qatar’s treatment of migrant labourers has been a global issue in the recent past and there have been calls for boycotting the Qatar World Cup from various corners of the world. It is is estimated that close to 30,000 migrant labourers have been used for several projects including building seven stadiums for the tournament in Qatar, as well as a new airport, new metro and new roads.
According to shocking reports which came out last year, more than 6,500 migrant workers from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have died in Qatar since it won the right to host the World Cup 10 years ago.
