Fastest to 5000 ODI Runs: Pakistan skipper Babar Azam achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the fastest cricketer to score 5000 ODI runs. The 28-year old reached the landmark in his 97th ODI innings on Friday, 5th May, while playing against New Zealand. He slammed 107 and with the knock broke the record of Hashim Amla, who took 101 innings to reach the figures. Babar Azam needed 19 runs to achieve the feat. In the fourth ODI against New Zealand, the skipper reached the magical figures with a single after Pakistan were put into bat by the visitors at the National Stadium in Karachi.
This was Babar’s 97th innings in 99 ODIs. He becomes the first-ever batsman to reach 5000 run-mark before 100 ODIs. He sailed past elite cricketers like Vivian Richards (114 innings), Virat Kohli (114 innings), David Warner (115 innings) to create history.
Babar has been in remarkable form in recent times. He reached 4000 runs in his 81st innings and it took just 16 innings for him to score the next 1000 runs. He also becomes the 14th Pakistani batter to go past 5000 ODI runs.

The 28-year old went on to slam a century to bring up his 18th ODI ton. With that he created another record of being the fastest player to hist 18 tons. He yet again surpassed Hashim Amla to create the record. Amla hit his 18th ODI ton in his 102nd innings.
