F1 Pre-season Testing: Daniel Ricciardo tops the timesheet at Barcelona: McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo set the fastest time on the morning of Day 2 in Barcelona. The Australian driver drove more than 60 laps and made his way to the top. The session was, however, red-flagged with just 30 minutes to go. It was Sergio Perez of Red Bull who stopped on the track. Daniel Ricciardo made his pre-season debut today after Lando Norris set the benchmark on Day 1. Daniel set the time of 1m 20.355s with just 10 minutes remaining. He surpassed the time of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz by two-tenths of a second. Carlos Sainz finished P2 and drove for 70 laps, the most on Day 2 morning session.

Sergio Perez of Red Bull brought the first red flag of the pre-season testing. He halted at Turn 13 just half an hour before and he finished P8. Perez then didn’t re-emerge to complete the session. But, he will come back for the afternoon session as Max drove on Day 1. Red Bull even installed some new parts overnight and it included a floor also.

Pierre Gasly of AlphaTauri was the third fastest and was two lengths behind Carlos Sainz. He also drove for 50 laps. Then came the new driver for Williams, Alex Albon who finished P4.

The big surprise of the morning session was Lance Stroll. He managed to finish P5 and also drove for 50 laps. Then it was the turn of Mick Schumacher who took P6 and also managed to drive for more than 50 laps. Haas had a good outing today as they had reliability troubles on the first day.

Valtteri Bottas only managed to complete just 16 laps. He is driving for Alfa Romeo as the car had reliability issues on Day 1. Bottas managed to finish P7 on the morning session of Day 2.

Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time F1 champion finished P9. He was behind Sergio Perez who halted on the track itself. Hamilton didn’t return back to the track after Perez’s red flag.

Esteban Ocon of Alpine stepped in the paddock for the first time in this pre-season. He finished P10 and also took over from his teammate Fernando Alonso, who drove on Day 1. Alpine suffered a DRS issue on the track.

In the afternoon session, the rookie driver Guanyu Zhou will make his debut in the Alfa Romeo outfit. Meanwhile, George Russell and Charles Leclerc will step in for the afternoon session for their respective teams.
