If Mercedes win this time around at the Silverstone circuit, then it would be their fourth consecutive win in the row but that looks a bit distant as the unnamed engineer said, “Our performance at the moment only depends on the set-up. But no set-up in the world makes a Red Bull or Ferrari out of this car.”

F1 British GP: Lewis Hamilton claimed his second podium finish of this season at the Canadian GP.

The seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton last week claimed his second podium finish of the season and George Russell continued his great run of form as he finished in the top five once again.

The outcome ignited faint expectations that the seven-time title holder could contend to come out on top in his home race at Silverstone on 3 July. However, the remarks of a Mercedes engineer suggest something else.

Mechanical issues have tormented Mercedes the entire season, and they miss the mark on the speed of the two leaders this season. Meanwhile, Hamilton at present sits in the 6th spot in the driver’s standings with 77 points, 98 points behind table-topper Max Verstappen’s 175.

Moreover, his colleague George Russell, in his first season as a Mercedes driver, is fourth with 111 points, while the Silver Arrows are falling behind Red Bull and Ferrari in the constructor’s standings.

However, Hamilton was confident of a turnaround in the wake of finishing on the podium in Montreal, with Russell behind him in fourth. “It has given me a lot of hope there is more to come from this car, that the potential is truly there if we can get the set-up right,” Hamilton said.
