Over the past two Indian Super League (ISL) seasons, Ritwik Kumar Das has transformed his reputation from a teenage prodigy to one of the country’s greatest wingers. Das has established himself as a major member of Jamshedpur FC since joining the team, scoring significant goals and setting up opportunities for his teammates.

Ritwik Das, the club’s top Indian goal scorer with six goals in 18 games, was one of Jamshedpur’s shining stars during the 2022–23 season. After almost a year, he was called back up to the Indian national squad, and in the Tri-Nation Friendly Tournament (which included India, Myanmar, and the Krygyz Republic), he made his debut as a replacement against Myanmar.
Jamshedpur FC in Super Cup 2023:
Jamshedpur FC lost 11 games in route to finishing 10th in the ISL. However, they started to play better towards the conclusion of the season, and he wants his team to keep up that trend.Additionally, they went on a four-game win-and-draw streak during which they were unblemished. Jamshedpur, though, shown a remarkable recovery despite losing to Mumbai City FC and failing to earn an AFC spot.
Referring to what Ritwik said:
“Its because we are more united than before and we have caught that momentum ,as a team we are moving forward and understanding each other more and each every player in our team is motivated to give his best so this is helping us give good results in our recent matches.”
Despite having a disappointing season in the Indian Super League (ISL) in 2022–2023, Jamshedpur FC was still able to qualify for the semi-finals of the Hero Super Cup 2023 with a match remaining. The Red Miners won their first two games against FC Goa and ATK Mohun Bagan before capping off the group stages with a 3-2 triumph over Gokulam Kerala.
Ritwik described how it felt to clinch the position after an incredible run :
“It is great feeling it feels amazing, to top the group which have teams like ATK Mohun Bagan , FC Goa, Gokulam Kerala FC ,and to win against them and to qualify with 9pts its amazing. I m really gratefull to god for this and very blessed .”
Jamshedpur FC pulled off a massive comeback against FC Goa, trailing by a goal and eventually winnng the game 5-3. Speaking of the game Das Said,
“Honestly we conceded the goal very early we had a lot of time left to come back ,and all of us trusted each other. We knew we can come back if we are ourselves and give our best so didn’t give up and everyone motivated each other. That’s what brought us back to the game. “
Jamshedpur FC’s turnaround of the success is heavily credited to the trust the team had on Coach Aidy Boothroyd. Although Aidy had a rough start to the season, he turned the thing around with quite a show.
Resonating to the thought Ritwik spoke highly of the manager:
“Aidy plays a very important role ,he is the boss he trust and believes in all his players and get the best out of them. Personally he tell me always to express myself and play my game in the field which helps me to play better and to help the team as much as possible. He helped me a lot in my personal game play which has helped the team also.”

In the AFC Champions League qualifying match, Mumbai City FC defeated Jamshedpur FC 3-1 to secure their place in the competition. The Red Miners lost the spot despite Elia Sabia’s goal, a superb header off a corner kick, giving Jamshedpur a lifeline. They will, however, be given another opportunity at the AFC level if they win the Super Cup. They will have to battle Gokulam Kerala once more, though.
Speaking on the AFC Cup aspirations:
“It will be great to compete in AFC and represent INDIA in club competition. We will give our everything to get into AFC . We are in a good form and everyone is motivated and eager to give there besfor the team.It will be an added motivation for us to win Super Cup and to play in AFC Cup.”
“Although we are all doing good and giving everything we can, we can learn from the mistake we are making. We should be more disciplined inside the field and help to improve each other to be our best ” he added.
Ritwik has always been a team player. A greatest characteristic of Das has been, his personal aspiration has alway co-incided to that of team. The winger is often seen helping his teammates rather than focusing on his personal allocates. Speaking on his plans Ritwik said:
“My personal plans is to focus on the Semis against BFC and to give everything possible to win the match and to progess to the finals. Personally I want to help the team more and learn from my mistake so i can improve and give my best possible for the team to be at the top.”
