England T20 WC Squad: A journalist named Tim Wigmore took to Twitter to state that Topley has been ruled out. “Reece Topley out of the World Cup, leaving an interesting decision over whether they call-up Richard Gleeson or Tymal Mills as a replacement. Mills has a much better record in Australia in T20s: an economy rate of 8.51, while Gleeson has an economy rate of 10.02” read his Tweet. This comes as a huge blow to the Jos Buttler-led side as Topley was expected to be a part of England’s pace attack for the T20 WC.

So far in his T20I career, Topely has picked up 22 wickets from 22 games at an average and strike rate of 29.5. He has an economy rate of 8.3, which is decent in this format of the game. Tymal Mills and Richard Gleeson, who are currently in the reserves, are in line to replace Topley. It is to be noted that the 30-year-old was a part of England’s squad during the previous T20 WC in 2021.

Currently, the likes of Chris Jordan, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes and Sam Curran are some of the pace options already in the squad. Thus, it will be exciting to see England’s team combination during the ICC tournament. Besides, the Brits have been in superb form of late. They recently beat Australia by 2-0 in the three-match T20I series. The fact that it was in Australia comes as a massive confidence booster for them. Prior to the same, England also beat Pakistan by 4-3 in the seven-match T20I series.

Thus, they would want to continue their good form, and win their maiden T20 WC. As far as their performance in the previous edition is concerned, England made it to the semifinal before New Zealand defeated them to proceed to the tournament finale. While England are scheduled to face Afghanistan which will be their first game of the T20 WC, UT will be held on October 22 in Perth.
