Ricky Ponting Declines Offer: 47 year old Ponting is currently coaching Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022.
According to a report by Daily Mail, Key spoke to Ponting recently. The former Australian captain declined the offer. The report further says, ECB was open to the idea that Ponting can continue his role with Delhi IPL Team. Still Ponting decided to give the offer a miss.

Former West Indies and South Africa coach Ottis Gibson has emerged as a candidate for the Test job. ECB’s new regime is interested in splitting the red-ball and white-ball roles.

- The 53-year-old Gibson has already coached two sides at international level i.e West Indies and South Africa.
- From the last two years, Gibson was in charge of the Bangladesh’s fast bowlers.
- Twice he has been with England Cricket Set-UP.
- He was England’s fast-bowling coach between 2015 and 2017, having previously done the job between 2007 and 2010.
But Ponting has made clear his unavailability, as has another Key target, ex-Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene.
According to reports, former England opener Nick Knight is another name which is being discussed in ECB’s corridors. Knight is in reckoning for the white-ball set-up of England Cricket. Knight has played 100 ODI Games for England.

The new ECB Set-Up is also entrusted with finalization of NEW CAPTAIN for the England Test team.
