The Rock became one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time while working for Vince Mcmahon’s promotion during the Attitude Era in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
But it seems like the wrestling giants are set to take a new direction with reports suggesting McMahon is ready to sell the company after a turbulent few months.
The 77-year-old initially retired as chairman, CEO and head of creative in July but remained majority shareholder.
Fans consider Dwayne Johnson to be a legitimate contender in a potential WWE sale. One of the highest-paid actors in the world, Johnson has the monetary backing as well as wrestling experience to be a favorite going into the bidding wars.

The current runners in the bidding war include Tony Khan, the Saudi Public Investment Fund, and Dwayne Johnson, of course. The latter in a talk with CNBC‘s David Faber claimed, “I used to have this mentality… that, ‘Well, my plate is full. However, I’m going to make room for [more]’ — and I would find a way to do that.” Paired with his comments about the new owners having to “share that same passion for the company and for the world of pro wrestling” and his current status as the world’s highest-paid actor, the stakes add up to point at the People’s Champion as the lead in the bidding war.
