Indian duo Rohan Bopanna and Yuki Bhambri lost to world number 9 Holger Rune and Johannes Ingildsen in straight sets to hand hosts Denmark a 2-1 lead. The Danish pair made short work of the Indians winning 6-2 6-4 in just 65 minutes as Rune’s presence proved to be a decisive factor. Earlier on Friday, India’s number one Sumit Nagal had erased a one-set deficit to pip August Holmgren 4-6 6-3 6-4 in two hours and 27 minutes.
Holger Rune was under pressure in the first set, even though he came ahead 2-0 according to plan. Nagal gave a good fight to make life difficult for the Danish tennis star. At one point he was close to being broken twice in a row, but a strong fight meant that Holger Rune got back into the fight.
In the second set, the picture was somewhat different and Sumit Nagal was never really close to getting back into the match. Rune sealed the second game with ease to defeat India in the tie. “Absolutely amazing feeling. Crazy good days and insane support. Sumit is an insanely solid player. He’s tricky to play against, so all credit to him.” said Holger Rune after the victory.
