India win gold in Lawn Bowl: CWG 2022 DAY 5: India managed to win a historic gold in the women’s four lawn bowl on Day 5 of the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. The Indian quartet of Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia and Rupa Rani delivered their A game against South Africa to win the elusive gold medal with a 17-10 scoreline. This has to be one of the best medals India has won in an multi-sport event. India have managed to defeat one of the favourites South Africa, who have been a huge nation in the sport. The celebrations of the Indian team showed what it really meant to them. They have surely introduced a new sport to the nation.
At the end of 15 rounds, the score read 17-10, and it was not a walk in the park for India. They were challenged by the South Africans. After India took 1-0 lead in the first round, one could sense a belief in the quartet that they can achieve it.

Though South Africa took a quick lead at 2-1, India bossed around South Africa. India regained lead and stretched it to 8-2. There was a serious need for South Africa to get back and they did in style, taking a 10-8 lead. One wondered if SA would run away with the gold.
But this Indian team has never given up in this edition, which helped them reach the final. They delivered a big blow to New Zealand, who lost to India in the semifinal. When it mattered most, India ran out victorious, taking the next nine points and make it 17-10 to clinch the elusive gold.

Here are some important Lawn Bowl Rules and point system
- A spherical ball with flattened sides and a small ball are needed to play the game. T
- The spherical ball is bigger in size than the other ball which is named Jack.
- The spherical ball is rolled on the lawn to start the play.
- The object of the play is to send the bigger ball to the smaller ball named Jack.
- After one round, a player/team is rewarded a point if the thrown spherical ball reaches closer to Jack. If more than one bowl gets closer to the Jack in one round, the team/player who threw the ball, will be rewarded with multiple points.
- The player/team who reaches the mark of 21 scoreline first, wins the game.
- Toss before the start of the match decides who will throw the spherical bowl first in Lawn Bowls.
- A Lawn Bowls ball is around 1.5 kgs in weight.
