Thapa, five-time Asian Championship medallist, was technically far superior to Baloch and landed a flurry of sharp punches on his opponent. The former world championship bronze medallist also defended well as he danced around the ring with ease. At one point, Baloch lunged forward to punch the Indian but Thapa effortlessly moved out of the way as the Pakistan boxer fell on the canvas.
As the competition moves ahead, there is a host number of boxers in the fray in both the men and women’s competition. Shiva Thapa has now got them off to a winning start and it would serve as a motivation to the other Indian boxers who would begin their campaign later in the day.
Thapa, who is a 2015 World bronze medallist did not feature in the Olympics, and it should act as a motivation to help him do well throughout the Games in Birmingham.
With boxing bouts being knockout rounds, it is imperative for all boxers to give their best in all the matches. A small mistake here for there could mean exiting the competition early with a heartbreak.
