CSK had to depend on MS Dhoni turning back the clock and score a fighting fifty to put 131 on the scoreboard.

But the off-day in batting or the run-out aside, the captaincy decisions too didn’t go well. Jadeja opted to go with Shivam Dube at a time when KKR had just lost a wicket after putting 44-run opening stand. Nitish Rana pounced on Dube for a 15-run over to take the pressure off.
Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja’s captaincy debut got off to a nervous start as CSK slipped into a pit in their opening game against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday. The defending champions slipped to 49/3 when Jadeja walked into bat and descended further into chaos after the new CSK skipper sold Ambati Rayudu down the other end, with a mix-up.

The 33-year-old was uncomfortable throughout his stay in the crease, with close calls while running between the wickets. Dube’s wicket further added pressure on Jadeja, who continued to play out deliveries as CSK struggled to put on a huge score.

MS Dhoni rescued the innings with a late onslaught and took CSK to a competitive 131 after the defending champions at one stage seemed struggling to even put on 120 on the board. Jadeja remained unbeaten throughout the innings, ending up on 26 off 28 balls, finishing with a last ball six.
Speaking to commentator Danny Morrison between the innings, CSK head coach said that there was some nervousness in play and hoped that the team hasehd it out as the season progressed.
“Every team has new cars (players), learning to drive. Bit nervous, bit hesitant. Kolkata has capitalized. It’s good to get underway after a lot of work in the nets. You get some coaching points now, something to work with. We won’t get too faced about this (a tough game like this). Won’t really change us. We just got to make sure we are confident and positive for the next one,” he said.
