CSK Playing XI vs MI: Sam Curran unavailable, Faf du Plessis doubtful, what will be Chennai Super Kings’ Playing XI vs Mumbai Indians?

The first blow comes in Sam Curran who is guaranteed not to feature in CSK’s Playing XI in the first match. The English bowling all-rounder has arrived in Dubai only on Wednesday morning. Since all players are supposed to serve a mandatory 6-day quarantine upon arrival in UAE, Sam Curran will miss the first match as he can leave quarantine latest by September 21.

IPL 2021: CSK Playing XI vs MI: As for Faf Du Plessis, his availability is uncertain. The former South Africa skipper has suffered a groin injury during his stint in CPL 2021. He missed the last two clashes and is unlikely to feature in the final against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. As groin injury takes longer to recover and is completely up to rest, Du Plessis could miss even more matches.

IPL 2021: What it means for CSK to lose Sam Curran & Faf du Plessis in 1st match?

  • Du Plessis is the man in form and had built a few good opening partnerships with Ruturaj Gaikwad. Missing him will be a big blow for CSK.
  • The fine start he gave CSK paved the way for big scores.
  • Sam Curran’s batting ability gave CSK batting depth as lower order could fire even under pressure.
  • His short deliveries could have troubled Rohit Sharma while his yorkers is another weapon that CSK will miss.

Sam Curran was a reliable bowling all-rounder for CSK last season in UAE. In 14 matches, the English star bagged 13 wickets and scored 186 runs including a half-century. In IPL 2021 Phase 1, he smashed a 15-ball 34 against Delhi Capitals while bagged nine wickets in seven games.

IPL 2021: CSK Playing XI vs MI: As for Faf du Plessis, the South African opener was in prime form, scoring four consecutive half-centuries with a first-half tally of 320 runs in seven innings. While he struggled after IPL with a concussion, he did return to form in CPL 2021, scoring a century and 270 runs in total.

The first obvious replacement in the first match for Sam Curran is Josh Hazlewood. The Australian pulled out of Phase 1 due to personal reasons. But with Sam Curran unavailable, he is all set to come in. While he is not as good with the bat as Curran, he can certainly hit a long six. With Shardul Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali in the team, it will not be a problem to score runs.
